Twice a week viable? - 11 June 2008 17:44
hey guys. i've been doing a fairly traditional 3 day split for a while now.

i have just started a 6days a week rowing program and i am struggling to fit the weights in.

i dont want to stop as i want to maintain my strength as much as i can. I accept i will lose some bulk and strength but i am happy with that.

is there a good 2 day routine out there?

thanks in advance

beefycol: I train for strength, I am not a bodybuilder, however I have gained about 2.5stone over the last 4yrs.

omgimcrap: no I only usually list the main PL lifts in my journal, here is a typical week's training.

Monday
- Flat Bench (25reps over 3-5 sets, aim for 5 - 7 reps per set)
- sometimes Close grip bench 3 sets of 6 reps
- sometimes Wide grip bench 3 sets of 6reps
- Pull ups, 4 sets, each set to failure
- preacher curls
- tricep pushdowns
- sometimes rotar cuff work

Thursday
- Squats, 3 sets of 5reps
- Deadlifts 3 sets of 5 reps
- sometimes heavy bench, ie sets of 3 reps

73.25K BW
160K Squat
102.5K Bench
220K Deadlift (3BW)

I've spent long periods only training twice per week.

Workouts are usually built around.

Session 1
Squat
Bench
Row

Session 2
Deadlift
overhead press
chins

Solid training basis imo.

Indoor or OTW? Which rowing programme are you doing. I do a lot of rowing as well. I normally do weights on an early morning session and then do steady state rowing at around 18:30. I don't do a double session if I am doing a hard intervals rowing session.

I am always too knackered (and sweaty) after a row to be bothered with weights and I have never tried them before rowing but I don't think it would work out.

i would go with something like this if your only doing twicw a wk,it hits all bodyparts, and you could always add in another exercise if you wanted.

Yes this is a solid foundation. I wouldn't do it ALL the time but this and variation so of the movements would definitely form a good core to your training.

If you play sport around it as well this will help the conditioning.
