Metabolism BOOKS - 11 June 2008 18:02
So having read through "Metabolism at a glance" i found it to be a very well laid out good read and will re-read it as i didn't quite grasp all of the numerous chemical changes that occur in each pathway.

I wondered what other books we've all read and would recommend?

I found both Ketogenic diet and UD2 by Lyle mcdonald to be great reads, with regaurds to the metabolism and hormonal response to starvation respectively.
My birthday is getting close, so any recommendations?

My main interests are metabolic pathways/Hormonal effects in response to food. However i also want to branch off into learning more about Hypertrophy and CNS adaptations to exercise.

Mods
I considered this more of a "diet" related post, as it will get more attention from it 'target audience' here IMO(than general forum).
If you disagree then no problemo
My posts are all my opinion and based on current knowledge/understanding.

regarding basic nutrition physiology, besides from lyle's there are not many reads i would bother with

if you have access to a library/uni, of course depending on how detailed you want to get, then there are a few textbooks i could recommend..

also the exercise stuff will be a lot more more accessible

Libary access shouldnt be a big problem, i can sign up to some 'public' libarys around.
Not at university, merely a hobby so specific texts may be a problem but ill take a look.

What ones do you recommend and what do they roughly cover/how much detail etc?

Thanks

Energy Metabolism in Animals and Man, Blexter - Research on how energy from food is dispersed . brings together thermodynamics,
methods, metabolizability, heat transfer, muscular work to a bunch of complete if not rather technical calculations

Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism Groff and Groper. An overview of nutritional physiology and not too technical.

You wont get better that Metabolism at a Glance. Though, a close second is R's Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism which looks at the nutritional aspects of metabolism
