Rice Cakes - GI? - 12 June 2008 09:04
My missus has bought some of these as she's watching the calories.

I've seen them feature in diets before and I've noticed they are very low cal and carb. I'm doing a low carb cut at the minute, so are they ok to include in my diet as a snack now and again. I've used oat cakes in the past, but rice cakes seem to contain less calories, but I don't know if they are high GI or not.

I think they contain the same carbs as an oatcake, 6g, but half the calories.... plus it feels like I'm eating more.

They are quite high GI - but of course depending upon what you have them with, i.e. cottage cheese, houmous, PB etc .... this will change the GI.

I'd either have them on their own as a snack at the weekends (this is when I struggle with my diet), or with some PB before bed.
