Low carb full english breakfast when cutting. - 12 June 2008 09:48
I'm doing a low carb cut at the minute, and virtually cut carbs out altogether at the weekends.

Sometimes at the weekends, I treat myself to a full english but miss the toast, hash browns etc.

So I'm eating no carbs, proteins and fats, but I'm guessing it's not good fat I'm taking in. How will this affect my diet?

I'm I just kidding myself that this is a good meal because I'm missing the carbs out, when in fact it should be avoided?

One meal a week won't break a diet mate - enjoy.

If I have a fry up I normally have:

8 Poached eggs

6 Sausages - 70% + pork

6 Bacon - fat cut off

Beans

Toms

Mushrooms

Half a loaf of tiger bread

Lovely

You could always try breads like soya & linseed - these are about half the carbs as your 'normal' bread but with more healthy fats & protein in them.

Off the top of my head a slice of burgen has 12g carbs compared to the 20-25 other breads do.

I know one meal a week won't hurt the cut, but I don't class this as a cheat meal..... I do that elsewhere!

Suppose I'm just concerned about the bad fats more than anything else.

As far as going for other breads, I don't mind missing the bread out. There's enough meat and eggs to keep me happy!

Fry up with:

Eggs
Sausages
Tomatoes
Mushrooms
Onions
Black Pudding
Bacon
Butter

= fine IMO. Though it won't particularly provide any good fats, it won't provide any damaged ones. Only thing to look out for is salt in sausages and bacon, and nitrites in bacon. Black pudding as far as I know is a pretty clean food.

Cheers Tony, good info.

It's something I'd cook myself but I often have one out and about.

The best one I've found is at BHS. £2.70 for a 10 item breakfast. You can pick the 10 items so I can skip all the carbs and load up on extra eggs and bacon. Plus they do black pudding.

Just feels wrong when cutting.

Damaged fat gets in the way of normal fat metabolism by inhibiting enzymes, etc. It does this by being oxidised, dimerised, polymerised, cylclised, trans fat formation, etc. Not good. Almost the equivalent of white sugar to carbs - although there are at least some times when white sugar coud be of use, PWO for example, there are no times when damaged fats come in handy (except maybe long term euthanasia plans..?)

Small amounts of refined veg oil daily are very hard to avoid; a fry up in a greasy spoon is an unfortunately obvious one that can be avoided. If they use butter, then that's a whole lot better, and basically fine as per my first post.

Would keep that sort of food at rare treat status rather than daily staple.

just remember folks low carb does not mean low calorie!

if you consume more than you burn then you arent cutting at all

Ha I know that, which I suppose is another concern.

Although on days when I do something like this, I tend to only eat small meals for the rest of the day.
