Tips for dipps - 13 June 2008 12:03
Hi, i know dipps are good for chest (and tri's isnt it??) but im unable to do them as no dipping frame at home where i train.

How else can i do them?? i cant afford a frame as they are very expensive and ive looked around on maybe how to make my own but no luck.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Dai

The best way to do it is the dipping station if you dont have one theres no point doing them imo, other alternate ways are no where near as effective. I tried them once a about 2 weeks ago between to bike machine handles, really hurt my shoulders, maybe im not strong enough to do dips, but i dont plan to do them for a while now as if i where to continue doing them im pretty sure i would fcuk up my shoulders.

could you not just dip using your weight bench? hands on the bench, feet on something of similar height, bit of weight on your lap and bobs your uncle.

not an ideal way of doing it but an option to consider
Only by going too far can one possibly find out how far one can go.

these are not as good, they hit the triceps more and place stress on the knee joint. I find them uncomfortable.

Does a weighted dip on a frame hit the chest (and some tris) whereas a dip using 2 benches deffo hits the tris rather than the chest.

I don't understand how a dip between benches causes knee problems unless you are rigidly locking your knees which is probably not good form.

I personally find 3* 20 between 2 weight benches really burns my tris and I consider it a fine exercise

if dipping on a bar, lean forward and it will place more strain upon the chest whereas if you keep as upright as possible the strain is mainly on the triceps

dipping bars allow the chest to come into play as a wide grip and leaning forward will bring the chest into play more.

bench dips work the triceps mostly, although the chest and shoulder will come into play a little. The main problem with bench dips is adding weight, the weight has to rest on the legs which just isnt comfortable.

Put a d'bell bar between the weights to steady the weight thats what i do casue i dont have a spotter or training partner, i use 15kg, 10kg, 5kg weights rather than 20kg as 20kg hurts my knees.
