deadlift - 13 June 2008 12:20
is this a respectable deadlift? i am nineteen and only trained deadlift once or twice before. before i joined a gym i trained at home and only had 100 kg's of weight found this easy the first time i did deadlifts so never rearly bothered to do it again. so in my first proper deadlift session at gym i managed 180kg's for three reps is this any good for a beginer to deadlifts. (only been weight training for 1 yr)

didnt know whether it was good because i am naturally a big person weighing in at nearly 18 stone and have seen people in my gym alot smaller than me lifting a lot more. also used straps as my grip is rubbish.

as for working these muscles before. i have done work on farms on and off since i was 16 which involved alot of lifting which is probally why i have a reasonabley strong back

So why did you ask and not include your weight then.

i ****ing hate people fishing for compliments, and using straps on deadlift means on the farm you buggered the sheep

is there any need for the abusiveness. all them roids must be going to your head.

as for the sheep bugering i find them quite hard to find on a pig farm, and anyway i preffer the pigs they are more of a challenge

bdave181.........That comment has probably ****ed your chances of ANY help/critiques in this forum!

The lift you did was good considering the info given. People don't like fishing here though! Simply reading the lifts in peoples signature would have told you it was a canny lift.

Matt - I'm so glad that you are here. I tried to raise this issue a few months ago with a suggestion for a sticky listing 'standards' in the various lifts that people could consult in order to check the quality of their performance. This would then make it even clearer that anybody feigning to seek an honest evaluation of his/her performance was in reality submitting an "Am I the man?' post (of which, as you have already noticed, there is a steady stream on this forum). Your approach is rather more direct, and as a result all the more effective!

180x3 is probably good to above average for your size considering length of training. The farm work does build a good base . I did 375lbs first time I tried them at around 185bw and 23 yrs old.
