givng up drinking and still going out?
-
14 June 2008 16:23
I want to stop the Binge drinking at the weekends im 25 now and just can't deal with the hangovers anymore, im still hungover from last night. Diet goes out of the window for the whole weekend and come Monday its hard to get back on track again. Don't touch the stuff in the week but come friday night all hell breaks loose and end up getting smashed and doing/saying things that I would never dream of doing sober. Ive had some of the best nights of my life being pissed up with friends but now feel that it has no part of my life anymore. Still want to go out with my mates at the weekends but not drink but the only problem being is that I can be quite shy around people when im socializing and trying to chat up the ladies but that all goes when ive had a drink. Going to go out tonight and take the car and see what happens. Will most likely leave for town around 10:30pm and meet them up there as town doesnt really get going to around 11pm rather going at 7-8pm and being bored! Im expecting for it to be boring whilst watching my mates slowly getting pissed up to the point where you cant have a sober converstation with them! And im going to try to aleast chat to a couple of girls, you never know! Im sure i'll get used to it over time these are the pro's which I can think of to keep me on track: 1) Cheap! Would prob only spend a £10 and not a £110 2) No need for taxis as I would be driving 3) No hangover in the mornings with feelings of guilt/regret 4) Being able to remember the whole night and that bird you pulled. 5) Be able to get up bright and early and do something productive on a Sat morning and not spending half the day in bed. 6) Able to stick to my diet throughout the weekend.

I did it last night mate. It is hard for the first couple of times but then you get used to it and as you say the pros of not drinking well outweigh the cons

Your friends may end up dumping you for being a boring bastard Seriously though, it may seem like an unusual thing to do (go out and not drink) but once you get used to it you will feel much more confident about yourself.

I can go out to a club or pub and have good night out with out a drink or with a drink makes no diffrence to me at all. Got the confidence to go out with out a drink and have good night out I rare drink save lots of money I also dont smoke either so save even more. Seen lots of people who drink all the time and it dont attract me to doing it cost of it now expensive in the UK over here.

Good luck mate, I sometimes drive out from time to time. I find its fine in certain places, but when you move onto busy clubs and bars with loud music I start getting p1ssed off. I start feeling tired and as result get irritable when people keep banging into me. Having to shout constantly when sober can get tiresome as well. I find I notice girls eying me up more when sober. Sadly I don't have the balls to approach them when sober in a club. You'll feel good in yourself the next day when you think of the money you saved.

I don't drink atall.. well maybe a few times a year max. Admittedly i don't go out to clubs as much as my friends, mainly because it does become quite tedious having a conversation with a bunch of drunks! I would much rather enjoy a meal in a fine restaurant with good company, than spend the equivelant getting drunk and sweaty in a club and a taxi and kebab on the way home Everytime i do drink, it reminds me why i dont drink

I've recently started doing this (going out and not drinking as opposed to not going out ) The first few times its a bit weird and i was very self concious but you learn not to care after a while and just enjoy yourself.

What do you guys tend to drink on nights out? Will have a couple of diet cokes then stop as I get stick of it and can feel it buggering me teeth up! Bottle water would be ideal but can't help thinking that people will think im a pill head

I'd also like to add that if you do decide to have a drink- go for a fruit based drink like wine or a spirit like vodka. No high carrb beers!

Ah the old "im never drinking again" the morning after the night before. I feel rough as a bear's bottom today I had a leaving do from work and drinking buckfast at 3am lol. Rarely go out anyway though so back on the wagon tomorrow. All I can think about id junk food ATM. You could moderate your drinking more i.e go out later and have a few looseners? Might be a compromise if you don't want to be stone cold sober?

It'll be odd the first few times from what I've been told. Cant comment honestly as I dont drink but you'll soon realise at what a mess people get into these days when they drink and you'll thank yourself for stopping

When you go out just stick to soft drinks if staying in have a beer. I dont touch booze mon -fri & sun. Only on a Sat IF at home. So if i go out i just stick to Caffiene and maybe some DY NOX etc. Try drinking Bottles rather than pints end up drinking less and dont get pissed. Also Try Drinking few pints of water b4 going to bed.

TBH, you get tired of it. Theyre on another mental level and youre there sitting sober. IME, you end up dumping them off. At the moment, Im swaying to back to this situation myself, been going to the gym 1 month strong, at least 3 times a week and putting in some work with lifting and eating. Now, Im starting to see some results and muscle memory to me, is no longer a myth. I was actually thinking to myself in the gym shower today whether tonight will be the last time I will have more than 1-2 pints in a night. Ive already stopped drinking spirits a while ago but yeah, good luck with it.
