Ed Coan Deadlift - 19 June 2008 16:58
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHwh6CZop6g

In this Vid Ed's Deadlift is like... well a mixture of conventional and sumo. Like hes not super wide like this sumo lifter...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QEyDlJP6Hc

but hes not narrow as a conventional deadlifter.

I tried the stance today and man its the nicest deadlift i have ever done. Like normally i feel sumo in my glutes and conventional in my lower back, but this stance, just slightly wider than shoulder width and arms between legs, seemed like it did equal for both. Do you think one could get best out of both worlds by doing a narrow sumo deadlift?

ye i will, feels nice!

the only thing is, because you got to have a narrower grip than conventional, my hands actualy goes onto the slippery bit of the bar, the bit with no grip, its pretty gay!

Coan used to squat and deadlift with the same width stance.

Thats an amazing lift by Coan, even more so when you consider how small he looks/is.

Basically the rule of thumb is,
If the hands/arms are inside the knees then it's considered sumo, regardless of how far apart your feet are.

Bare in mind, if you plan on getting involved in strongman, most comps. dont allow sumo lifts in a deadlift event.
