How to slow whey down - 20 June 2008 08:56
Is there anything I can do to slow down the speed that whey is absorbed?

But..... without adding carbs?

I'm on a low ish carb diet, even lower at weekends when I don't train, and I sometimes have to rely on whey shakes at the weekend to top my protein up and stop me snacking on crap?

I'd rather not use milk if I don't have to, just due to the carbs and cals it contains.

If I add some Flax oil would that slow it down?

Flaxseed oil will slow it down, as would any oil like olive oil, walnut oil etc.

Maybe consider getting some unflavoured casein to add in aswell or getting a blend like 90+ or Express Whey (EW does contain 4g of carbs a scoop so it might be an issue for you)

whats the point?

Adding milk will be less calories generally than flax oil, cutting is about calories

Ok, so would I be better off just using milk? I was thinking of making it a protein and fats meal with no carbs?

Will8801 - Yes I really ought to get some casien but it's only really for weekend emergancies. Some weekends I'm in a lot and stick to my diet. Others, I'm all over the place.

youre overanalysing this mate, seriously a few carbs isnt going to hurt you. id rather you added in another sscv session then worry about the difference 10g or so of carbs will do to you

Or if you have money to burn then do as Will has advised and get in some casein or Milk Protein Concentrate

Yeah you're right. Milk it is.

I don't wanna be drinking it in water though do I? It'll just be a waste?

Protein. I thought whey in water absorbed really quickly and you p1ss a lot of it out. unless it's PWO when it's needed?

Have I got this wrong? I'm sure I've read it a few times on here

Maybe this is a stupid suggestion, but can you replace it with a chicken breast?

No, if I had time to do that I would. I'd only use whey during the day as an emergancy food.

No worries - if it's only for emergencies, I wouldn't sweat about it. It's not like it will make a huge difference to things in the long run...
