Am I too late for power moves
-
20 June 2008 10:09
Hey guys I've been training (seriously) now for about 3 years and I've never really done any power lifting i.e. deadlifts, clean and press etc and I've been reading that when you first start out that those are the things you should primarily be doing to build up your strength before concentrating on trying to "sculpt" your muscles. So I was thinking about just changing things up and primarily concentrating on Deadlifts,Clean and press,Benching and Squats (as well as some other exercises) but I wasn't sure if I'm too late to take advantage of the benefits of this.

No way are you! If that is what you want to do then do it .....you can still reap the benefits. Sometimes a little change around can help push past sticking points as well.

Its never too late.. Get yourself a basic routine incorporating the exercises you mention with the aim of adding weight as and when you can. Eat and rest well.

i have been in a powerlifting comp with a guy who was 68 and only started training fairly recently. So no you are never too old. If you want big lifts though, you'll have to adopt a routine thats more aimed at strength than muscle mass

To be honest I've just been thinking (possibly incorrectly) that maybe I'm best doing power moves to put on the size then after a wee while once I've got the size I'm looking for then start back on my volume training.Am I wrong to think this way? Also if I'm only doing workouts with power moves what kinda routine am I looking at?

ORIGINAL: cliff_vtr ............and train hard, very very hard .....................................and there, Cliff has it bang on the nail! A lot of people it seems, feel that it they simply change their rep range down it will work! It doesn't. You do have to work extremely hard at it. It seems like I'm stating the obvious, reading it back! But it does need to be emphasised - work very hard, and then some!

But it does need to be emphasised - work very hard, and then some! indeed, I often can't speak properly and shake abit after deadlifts for a min or 2. A lot about lifting is mental, if you want it, then there are usually more reps to be had, you just have to get your head to tell your muscles to put effort in.
