question for james - diet for low test - 20 June 2008 14:40
i have low testsoterone levels, receive nebido hrt from doctor, and am currently bulking with alot of carbs. have onlyr ecently been diagnosed (hence y my gains have been poor) and have been reading on the internet how low t is linked with insulin resistance. so was considering the anabolic diet or something simialr, or alot less cabs. jw if you ahd anything to offer on the matter? cheers

I hate to butt-in mate, and I can't help with the question, but how old are you and what prompted you to go to the Dr's to get your condition investigated?

Low test could be linked to insulin resistance, but it may not.

In order to help I need to know your currenlt weight, what sort of %BF you think you are - approx, your current diet, your sleep-wake pattern, and anything else you think I need to know

i don't wana say how old i am - just say under 25. what prompted me was increase in abdominal fat eve though sound diet and exercise, weakness, lethargy, depression and a lack of morning erections.

James - current bf about 14 %, 6ft 4, 12 st 7 ish, sleep patterns poor, go to bed about 10.30ish, wake at 6.30ish. weight train 5 times a week, stopped cardio for the moment but usually either 20 mions after weights or 3 x 30 mins runs per week or some hiit and steady sate mixture. current diet is very carb ehavy as looking to bulk, was thinking of replacing carbs witrh fats as have read low testo can mean insulin resistance hence increased abdominal fat

Can someone answer these questions on low test please..

1. Could your test level just drop or would there have to be a reason?
2. Would your workouts seriously suffer if you had a low test level? Would you be able to complete a heavy workout for up to an hour for example?

there are loads of reasons test could drop - depression, problems with certain gland hypothalamus etc, test levels are always changing but you would know if theyw ere seriously low. i went from about 6 % bf, did weights in morning 1hr cv at night easily full of energy, good life to struglling to get out of bed nod esire to get up no eenrgy levels, a severe loss of muscle mass which i thought was just down to not eating enough and much lwoer fitness levels. if eel slighlty better now as on hrt and have got bit stronger but levels still well below normal. if slightly low mate nothing to worry about. believe me you would know if theyw ere seriosuly low and yes your training would obviously suffer and gains be minimal at best

Diet may help if it's linked to insluin resistance, then upping fats and protein and reducing carbs a little, around exercise, may help. Otherwise diet will have little influence
