yeah i know where you mean, hmmm world might be a bit of a drive then as its just off sutton road i think. I wouldda thought there would have been a decent gym round oak tree way but then again i wouldn't wanna leave my motor there for more than 5 mins lol. There used to be one at mansfield rubgy club that ain't far from you, not sure what its like theses days as i'm goin back a good few years now.

worlds would be good as you've only been goin 6 months mate, a wealth of experience in that place and most of the guys (well were when i was there) were pretty friendly. Its a proper BB gym and i think it would be worth it for the advice etc alone

Hiya mate,
youve got a good few places to choose from in mansfield,
fitness first, jjb, oasis, banatynes all big chain type gyms - good level of equipment, more fitness based etc. All require contract type membership which is not so good IMO. Only really have experience of fitness first and i didnt like it, plenty of chavy types doing endless bicep work in the upstairs weight area whilst scowling at everyone.

Then theres Body and soul, never been personally but said to be good with boxing/martial arts area and instruction - i think.

World Physiques - superb, cant fault this place at all. great level of equipment, fully decked out with hammer strength, more freeweights - dumbells etc than you will see anywhere else and with the owners being Paula and Steve you wont get better knowledge anywhere else. Paula is a former Miss Olmypia contestant and Steve's very titled also, they help many prepare for shows from all over the place and you will get to see many big name bodybuilders who drop in from time to time if you train there. Great freindly atmosphere and cheap subs.

New gym just opened in Woodhouse is Angels. Again great gym, Good Knowledge equipment atmosphere etc cheap subs again with no contracts etc. Cant fault this place either you wont go wrong here as the Owner Nigel with Smokey and Kim all seem great guys, very friendly and will help and advise you.
This is where i train.

Stay away from the chain type gyms IMO, there are better gyms with equipment thats far superior (new and shiny with lots of chrome doesnt always mean its any good)and real knowledge to help you for alot less money (the instruction that i saw at fitness first was at best laughable and even dangerous)
The 'proper' gyms will also make you feel part of a community not just a cash cow.

The one at Oak Tree Leisure Centre is supposed to be a decent set up Dick, my sister and brother in law train there and they rate it.

Bin to every gym in mansfield apart from the one near the superbowl, oak tree lane one is too busy now and not big enuff hand weights, and other machines let it down, to train properly, body and soul very good but quite dated (a lets say hardcore gym) so didnt join there but did use it a couple of times on day rates, im currently at bannantynes and love it there its good, great selection, clean gym, plenty of facilities and most of all opens at 6am and shuts at 11.30pm cant go wrong!!

As for training partner bit, im also considering a training partner, how old are you and got any stats on yourself?? Are you currently training???

Thanks for all the advice guys, I guess its between angels and world.

I did have a look in bannatynes but the free weights area looked very small to me? I have a similar setup at my work so didnt fancy paying over £300 to join.

In regards to the post about stats e.t.c. Im 29 and currently work out 5 days a week training a different body part each day. Sups I take are whey, creatine, fats and vitamins. I train the old school way mainly focusing on the compound movements such as squats, deadlifts, and bench press.

MAX deadlift 140kg

MAX bench press 75kg for few reps

Jonny Bravo if your looking for a training partner let me know.

There's a good set up in FF in Mansfield, they have a squat rack, 2 smith machines, 3 cable machines loads of benches and free weights.

Worlds is a very good gym,as others have said, with loads of everything you could need. The only thing that I didn`t like was the opening hours at weekends-close at 2pm.

I`ve just joined the new JJB in Mansfield and it`s very well kitted out-squat rack, power rack, flat, incline, decline bench press`s,smith, chest supported row,dip station, chinning bar,DB`s up to 50kg,loads of plates from 1 1/4 up to 25kg and loads of other machines.... Also air con is a nice bonus too as is the swimming pool/sauna/jacuzzi

26 quid a month(off peak-8.30am-4.30pm Mon-Fri 8-8 weekends)

I went to have a look at the JJB in Mansfield when it first opened, to be honest it looked to small, no where near as big as Fitness First across the road. I'd hate to see JJB when it's busy I bet you can't move.
