Limit on length of cardio session? - 21 June 2008 07:31
HI All,

Im a couple of weeks into my cutting diet. My training is as follows:

MON:Weights
TUE: Cardio
WED: Weights
THU: Weights
FRI: Cardio
SAT: Cardio
SUN: Weights

I have kept the weights heavy and do the cardio for 1hr 20 mins in the following split:

40 mins cross training
20 mins rowing
20 mins running

If i do not see results am I ok to up the cardio to 2 hours sessions or will this have detremental impacts to the muscle I have gained? Is it best to spilt cardio over more days and to reduce the time? I dont want to reduce my calorie intake as i find myelf quite hungry at the mo (i am 175lb, 5"10 - calorie intake ~1950)

Cheers

Ashley

I certainly wouldn't do more than 1hr 20 mins mate. I'm a big fan of cardio for cutting but I leave it at 1hr max apart from very occasionally. Obviously intensity is a factor but even at low intensity 2hrs would be excessive and catabolic imo. If possible I'd try and do cardio everyday even if it's just 20 mins after your weights.

Yes I agree with Pagan, if you do not see results - look at putting in a cardio session after weights.

i usually opt for 30-40mins. If I need to do more then I will do 2 sessions in one day which I think is more effective than 1 long session.

Maybe train a little harder instead of longer and add a little cardio to weights days.

i do 30 mins after weight sessions and 40 mins on non weight days for cutting.

on your cardio days, try doing 20 mins before breakfast and then 30 later on

As long as everything else is in check I'd increase the frequency of the cardio.

Try 5 x 1 hour steady sessions.

I do this on a Saturday. An hour in the morning fasted, and then a further hour in the evening. Not doing me any harm.
