VID- Is My Form Really Bad ? - 22 June 2008 09:10
Afer some comments from a local gardener in my journal I'd like some input on my form in the following vid. I genuinely thought my form was decent but Percy Thrower * says it stinks ! Obviously his is an additional excuse to flaunt myself on the internet

Vid

* remember him oldies ?

looks not bad to me

do you deliberately not do a full range of motion? my only thing to say would be that all the reps should be the range of motion of the reps when you were getting a spot...well that's what I do anyway, all the way to lockout

TBH I've always focused on lowering the weight to chest, maybe I dont lockout fully looking at it now but then again I tend not to lockout fully on most things

Nothing wrong with your form. Especially considering the size of those dumbells, what 50kg each? They are unweildy.

Nothing wrong with using a mixture of 2/3 range, full range, etc.

fair enough, some people don't, I remember seeing ronnie coleman doing bench and he does a similar range to you

what was tony saying in your journal that was wrong with the form?

Percy wasn't specific , I did wonder if he was winding me up but I now assume it was the lockout.

and I haven't yet mentioned the gayness of getting your "partner" to pass you the Dbell.

I normally use the force to get the second db into position but I thought it would freak people out

No it was my normal gym. I visited the Redcar one yesterday though and while it was a bit rundown and messy it did have power racks , squat racks , a log and big old dumbells up to 75k

No bad at all.

Id still increase the ROM but what youve done there at that weight is cool. If I were to be really picky, when your spotter came in, he helped a bit too much to push the weight up, should have really let you struggled a bit more.

48kg incline is strong!

Hazard a touch of narcissism without shame.

The way I see it , you *must* know your body well enough to know your own effective range of motion (IMO , Judging by your pics ) If you are meting that range , then that's all that counts

OK so you may not be getting a 'Full' ROM in textbook terms ,But if you can honestly say they felt like you were using your full effective range - then what more can you ask, if you are happy with them , and you are getting bigger and stronger ... then thats all that counts !

The only thing that I would say , is that your spotter was a bit keen for my liking !

Cheers Stone , like I said to someone in my journal , we dont do forced reps as a rule these days so my partner was taken by suprise as you can see by his hestitation after my last unassisted rep

Cheers Dr Z , yeah I've been training for longer than I care to admit so I'm pretty much in a groove with my fav exercises but maybe I should try improving my rom now I've been exposed !

That would be a easy warm up weight for you though I bet

i do 50's for incline press and i use more range of movement, rock bottom so the db's touch the chest and straight up to lockout.

i agree with the spotter helping too much but he at least got you to do full range of movement lol
