I need a thyrister for a kids steady hand game project.

It needs to go with a 9v PP3 battery. Is there a suitable thyrister from Maplins? 106?

you could use a relay to make it simpler

Is a relay cheaper? Schools are tight arses.

Thyrister seems simple enough!? I want it to latch when triggered.

Cheers for that! But what kind of relay? I need cheapest option out of SCR and relay.

I got to buy about 60.

relay can be had for pence as can thyristors but i think relay would be more robust and easyer

im my old school they had about a million relays ect laying around in the DT dept

cheepest option would be a thyristor then and yes those maplin ones will do, i assumed you were making one and most schools have relays in without ordering in from my schooldays anyway

Nah, there was a big clean out. No relays.

The only relays I saw on Maplins were rated at several hundred volts but obviously had small gate currents. I assume fine with 9v dc?

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=218089&criteria=9v%20relay&doy=22m6

something like that, but idealy 9v coil rating you only need a single throw one for the circuit i just drew a 2 one for some reason.

with thyristor circuit you need resistors too that bump the price of buying 60units so could be about even for cost
