Is it just me or does mentioning the fact that Paul Ince is black and the first black Englishman to manage a Premier League side seem faintly absurd?

I'm a 30yr old, white, straight, male, which probably puts me into the least discriminated category there is. Yet in my infinite wisdom I feel that the ethnicity of a Premier League manager shouldn't even be worthy of a line on the back page of the local rag, let alone the first line of an article of one of the most viewed websites in the world.

Am I being naive?

It's not meant to be controversial; the opposite in fact.

I find it bizarre, and patronising, that in this day and age people's ethnicity when they reach certain "high powered" positions is even mentioned.

Saw this on the news earlier. The only reason I would have realised that his being black had any sort of relevance to anyone was when I saw the thread title. Otherwise I wouldn't have even thought about it personally.

I think it`s just one of those things they feel they need to mention, adds a bit more to the story.

For what it`s worth he was very highly regarded at Macclesfield ( where he did an excellent job)and even then there were suggestions he would be going to the top in a very short space of time.

Personally the colour of any manager should not be an issue.I cringe when i read 'first Black' anything.Maybe it is more important
to Black people but i think making an issue of it is wrong.

What matters is getting the right man for the job.People should be employed on ability not colour and that should apply to all walks of life.

I love watching programs about aas.

If it wasnt for the fact they can make you go bald I would do them now, the day I go bald though Ill be straight on them.

I'm guessing it's because of either leaving MK dons.

Or having played for Man United and then kissing the liverpool badge infront of Man United supporters (about the biggest sin in the man united handbook).

On the main point, i agree it shouldn't be mentioned, although it is a first his race should not matter one bit, if he has the crudentials then he should be rewarded (which he has been)
