Carb depleting - should I take post workout carbs?
-

Im attempting to follow the advice in the following link for a "peak week": http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/layne36.htm My question is, when carb depleting, should I be taking in carbs in my post workout shake or my post workout meal (an hour after)?

Would carbs in post workout shake not replenish glycogen (which think Im trying to deplete)?

Yes they would, so obviously avoid them if your trying to use all your stored glycogen. When you supercompensate/carb up or whatever you plan to do, carbs will obviously be used.
My posts are all my opinion and based on current knowledge/understanding.

How are you carb-depleting? Lots and lots of sets and reps with lowered weights?

The plan is to do high reps with a lower weight, keep rest periods down and not go to failure. Probably go for full body workouts on Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri. Ill be taking Wed, Sat, Sun off gym.

http://www.thinkmuscle.com/articles/mcdonald/training-on-ketogenic-diet.htm Thought about this instead? Gives you a chance to have a couple of carb loads before training during the week. Allows fat loss, and muscle gain. Less heartbreaking than low carbing. I was going to take a ketogenic diet up, but am thinking this looks a lot more interesting with the carb ups to assist training. Having done a low carb diet before it was impossible to lift for long or with much intensity, or weight... felt rather depressing :) DD

Lobo - Just research a fair bit before hand, your lean and super low carbs + alot of exercise may lead to muscle loss....specially in your lean condition!
My posts are all my opinion and based on current knowledge/understanding.

I'm trying to do the same. I have a couple of questions. Should I taper down my carbs, so lets say I am going away on Friday, so 50g today, 40g tuesday, 30g wednesday, 20g thursday, and 100g Friday. Would this work? Secondly, what do you think of this WO? A1. Quad exercise, 10-12 reps 30 seconds rest A2. Hamstring exercise, 10-12 reps 30 seconds rest Repeat 6-8 times B1. Back exercise, 10-12 reps 30 seconds rest B2. Chest exercise, 10-12 reps 30 seconds rest Repeat 6-8 times C1. Triceps exercise, 10-12 reps 30 seconds rest C2. Biceps exercise, 10-12 reps 30 seconds rest Repeat 6-8 times Lastly, how much fat should I be consuming, and how much protein? I.e What ratios? Thanks

Went for about 170g of carbs today - will drop that to about 140ish tomorrow and keep going down to about 40-50g on Saturday. 7 litres of water and tonnes of salt and soy sauce on all my meals. Workout did highish reps but never to failure. TBH, I feel pretty crap today. But im putting that down to lack of sleep last night. Gonna make sure I get 8 hours tonight and hope Ill be fresh tomorrow. As you say. dont wanna drop carbs too low and lose muscle so will keep the drop slow and gradual and the workouts light.

ORIGINAL: trainhard1 ORIGINAL: theiopener why though, theres nothing of you anyway to cut down to quite similar to yourself then Im not the one who struggles to gain weight. FBG says hes a hardgainer and has barely gained a stone despite loads and loads of eating and training so what is the point of carb depletion in this situation when he doesnt really carry any fat to begin with? As for myself, well that something i can change given time, though you dont really add anything worthywhile to a thread apart from a cheap dig, never mind better luck next time
