Any advice ?
-
23 June 2008 09:44
I was wondering if any of you good folks had any advice seen as things are a little hard for me at the minute. Everything seems to be going wrong, and it's getting me really down (not one to usually be like this). About 7 weeks ago I was playing football and tore the lateral ligment in my left knee, tore my calf and shin muscles as well as damaging the nerve down the side of my leg. In addition to that I'm halfway through my PhD and it's been going a bit sh*t (as it does occasionally). I was sleeping with this girl from work, now she's knocked that on the head. Just when I couldn't feel any worse coming back from the gym last week a chav smashed me on the back of the head and ran off (obviously my knee is knackered so I can't run). It's getting so getting out of bed in the morning is becoming a real effort and I'm not doing any work all day. Still lifting pretty well but I've got no appetite and hate what I see in the mirror. I have been close to making myslef sick a few times (although this hasn't happened yet). Nothing seems to be going right and I have never felt this badly about stuff before, just feels like I'm being dragged down to the floor constantly and I'm not entirely sure what to do. Apologies about the long post but was hoping for some sage advice. Thanks in advance.
No matter how small you are feeling, just remember.....Eric Wimp was really Bananaman ! Squat - 110kg x 5 (bad knee !) Bench 110kg x 3 Deadlift 210kg x 1

I can't really advise you on how to ort out any of your individual problems, but keep your chin up and remember that life has its ups and downs. Things will get better, so keep a positive attitude to make sure they don't get any worse.

I have been the same as well mate i too have torn the ligamesnt in my knee, and only 2 weeks from a comp they are still not healing. just keep you head up, it may be hard sometimes, but thats what you have to do. maybe give yourself a target as that helps to focus your mind. that is what i done and it really has helped me all the best to you

Thanks folks, I know I just have to keep plugging away but just seems almost impossible at the minute, just end up feeling so low all the time. Thanks again.

ORIGINAL: Hally Thanks folks, I know I just have to keep plugging away but just seems almost impossible at the minute, just end up feeling so low all the time. I reckon anyone who has ever done a PhD will identify with the feeling that it's going no-where and that it'll never end. It's part of the experience I'm afraid. All I can suggest is maybe a chat with your supervisor or someone else in your department to discuss your thoughts about where it's at. You're probably doing much better than you think you're doing.
Ten thousand glorious years.
