Tom's Olympic Weightlifting Journal
-
23 June 2008 22:14
Rightio. Hi, im Tom. My old journal which is mainly Physique focused can be found here - http://www.muscletalk.co.uk:80/m_1287821/tm.htm Progress was as follows - Ive now become interested in Olympic weightlifting so i thought i'd begin a new journal. Im not maxing out atm as im still learning the technique etc... Training Hers a few recent sessions Powerclean and jerks 50x2 60x1 60x3 60x2 70x2 cleans 70x2 80x2 Hang clean and jerk 60x3 60x3 75x3 75x3 jerks 60x4 70x1 72.5x1 72.5x1 72.5x1 reverse hyper 40x15 40x15 40x15 GHR 12 8 10 pull throughs no.14 x12 stack x12 stack x12 pikes 8 8 8 Power cleans barxlots 50x3 50x3 50x3 60x3 60x3 70x2 70x2 80x2 80x2 80x1 90x1 90x1 decent, 90kg was fine. I considered going for 100kg but decided to leave it for another day. Front squats 60x5 70x5 70x5 80x5 80x5 OMG, this is embarrasing. If im honest ive not squatted in ~6 months and not consistantly squatted for over a year due to the back probs i mentioned before. Anyhoo its safe to say they suck! Actually just realised that i can lunge more than this, obviously did not put enough effort in. Hang clean 60x3 70x3 70x3 ripped a callous off which im used to from the rowing days but then i started bleeding so thought i should stop. Pull throughs stack x15 stack x15 stack x15 stack x15 very short rest here GHR body x12 x10 x8 x7 Plate pinch 2x10kg plates per hand xmax 2x10kg plates per hand xmax 1x10kg & 1x15kg plates per hand xmax 1x10kg & 1x15kg plates per hand xmax box jump 80cm box x3 80cm box x3 80cm box x3 80cm box x3 put another on top to make ~ 130cm looked at iut and though - not a chance pikes 10 5 Push jerk bar xlots 40x5 50x5 50x5 60x3 60x3 Jerks 70x2 75x1 80x1 80x1 60x5 60x5 Strict press 40x12 40x10 Row 170lbs x8 190lbs x8 210lbs x6 230lbs x5 210lbs x5 190lbs x10 210lbs x5 Snatch high pulls 60x2 60x3 60x4 60x3 60x3 70x2 DB Incline press 32.5 x10 32.5 x10 32.5 x10 32.5 x10 Tonight! Right got my ass to fitlike gym tonight! Brilliant place. not much else to say than that! Ian, the owner, helped me with my snatches as i said i'd never done any before. SO..... 1ST EVER SNATCH BASED SESSION (hence the crap weights) Hang snatch barxlots 30kgxlots 40x3 40x5 40x4 42.5x4 42.5x4 4's i hear you cry! i had no choice honest!! :D Snatch High pulls 60x5 65x3 65x3 65x3 we set a bar up here to make sure i was getting correct height. Ian reconed that if i could quite easily high pull to this height i should be able to snatch it. Time shall tell! - they all felt light. Snatch balances 40x1 40x2 40x3 then i did assorted cleans with jerks good fun! VID FOR YOU - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IisF9_zuDc&eurl TOM

Should be a good journal, like a slice of the lemon fresh every now and again.

ORIGINAL: Ak_88 Good to see you back in the Oly lifting Tom. I wish i had bumper plates and a coach to teach me these. Instead the facilities are being built down in Pompey the year after i leave One thing i'd say with your jerks is you don't get much leg bend it looks like. Might be possible to shift a few more kg's if you went a little deeper Thanks mate! lol, typical aint it! Your very right, and its something i hope to work on, i think its mainly a confidence thing with really commiting and getting under it. Oh wait - are we talking the bend before leg drive or the bend of my legs under the bar! The lack of bend before the explosive bit was because it wasnt really needed i suppose to get it overhead as it wasnt near max. All the best Tom ORIGINAL: T0NY Should be a good journal, like a slice of the lemon fresh every now and again. Cheers Tony! Its good stuff! A hell of a lot more technical than people think! Tom

Todays training - a quickie Cleans - warmups barxlots 40x3 60x3 60x3 70x1 - working sets 70x3 70x3 70x3 70x3 80x3 hm... all ok - weight can go up Jerks - warmups barxlots 40x3 50x3 60x3 - working sets 70x3 70x3 70x3 70x3 75x3 none of these massively difficult i just did not feel explosive today. Then did some face pulls and pull throughs. The pull throught did not feel to good with the band, ROM was not the best etc... todays vid - my god the pull throughs are a bit homoerotic, im regretting including them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4SCHnCJt2E

ORIGINAL: Welshy ORIGINAL: BARBUDA Hey Welshy! Thanks for popping in! Appreciate the kind words! Hows things going? Very well mate thanks ! Looks like things are great with you too Thats great to hear Maybe i will see you again at your bbq meet, i've not posted anything yet as i have no idea where i will be and if i will be able to make it, but if i can make it and i'm welcome i would very much like to come along again! Things are cool here thanks, back at home for the summer - bit dull tbh. Again today i could not get to the gym with a platform so did some OH work - which i a big weakness of mine STRICT BB OHP - warm ups - 20x8 - 30x6 - 40x5 - 50x5 - working sets - 60x3 - 60x3 - 60x3 - 60x3 - 60x3 I will use this as a baseline to improve upon. I not sure whether to stick to 5x3 and increase the weight or to try and get to 5x4 with 60kg next week then 5x5 the next. Then go back to 5x3 with more weight? Any ideas? Then did some DB pressing and external rotations meh...
