No way it's just Primarni... they will all be at it.
Even we did it not that long ago.

Not saying I'm happy about it but it's just the way of the world, someone will always be worse off.
Bet they are happier stitching sequins than choping off half of there limbs so they can beg from torists on the streets.

Feel sorry for them though.
A muscle that's weak in isolation will be weak in integration.

Nike have been caught in the past as well as other various sports kit manufacturers.
Thing is to the kids familys its a good wage, and as long as companys can get away with it then th will try to.

Ah but when Primark were ordering the goods from the manufacturer they did'nt know that they were sub contracting the work out to child labour in the remote areas of India, the big firms all had signs saying "No Child Labour". When work is sub contracted out the main company who owns the work have no say into whether they use child Labour or not. I hate to see these kids working for 50p a day in squalid conditions sometimes 12 hours a day. It's not just Primark, all the big supermarkets and clothes shops are all using the same firms Primark use in India.

They're all at it, not just Primark or Nike....

Almost every consumer product or article of clothing we buy, play with, or otherwise enjoy is made in conditions we wouldn't endure. Even Italian made sweaters are likely being made by Chinese immigrants in Chinatown ghettos in Italy. Such is the goal of capitalism/globalisation.

It should be noted that AFAIK brands like Nike are just that. Brands. Others do the making under license.

I remember when we used to make stuff and we had factories and kids had a chance of learning a trade. We made cars, speakers, training shoes, clothes, Mars bars......

Raises some interesting questions that. I am such a clothes whore that I have noticed a few articles from DIFFERENT DESIGNER brands that are exactly the same, just different colours. Every stitch, every seam, same. Noticed it with some branded shoes also, the exact same hiking shoes with different branding and colours....

I'm pretty sure there's nothing they can do about it. It's not high priority enough to impose economic sanctions on states who allow it etc as it actually contributes positively to our economy and proving which manufacturers use these resources is a difficult business.

its the people subcontracting out the work to meet the tough deadlines primark/GAP whoever set.
To make more money out of a contract, subcontract it out for less to kids who will work for less.

i wont stop buying primark and other similar cheap clothes because of this issue as its impossible to stop

The thing is if the wage given is increased adults will take the role or kids are stopped from working ,then the children will just move to something else poss a lot worse and unsafe, like scrounging around a scrap heap.
The problem is with the need for the children too work,a lot fo the time they have too to feed the family.

Its a no win situ, unless the india gov make things better allround which wont happen im my lifetime

this is true.

Primark won't directly oversea any production I don't recon - it'll all be outsourced to the cheapest guy who can produce a certain quality assurance.

as bad as it is, there are worse things in the world. in the past 15 mins how many kids who don't work for Primark have died in Africa as a result of malnutrition?

As stated b4 they could be doing a lot worse things.....that is the way of their country.......
We only see it as bad because its not the way our country operates.
Which it did until not so long ago! People seem to forget that. Sending kids up chimneys etc isnt too pleasant really but it went on not so long ago in the UK.

The kids either work or starve.Simple choice really.Im not saying its nice for them but we have evolved to have to work to ensure our survival.Whether its the tribals out catching their food or people working in factories.
The way the UK is going we will struggle to feed ourselves in the not to distant future.
We also use the cheapest legal labour to do jobs now as our economy goes down the toilet! All the PC activists in this country seem to forget that! We operate a minimum wage that would hardly feed a sparrow when the cost of living is taken into consideration at present.
I know a polish girl that was working 70 hours a week just to pay her rent and have decent clothes etc. The number of people with 2nd jobs just to make ends meet is alarmingly high.

Let me see - BBC2 has a programme on this which has been repeated every week for weeks (Blood, Sweat and T-shirts). Some bird off of Channel 4 got a load of fashion victims to pretend to be Indian workers for a programme a few weeks back but gosh and golly Panarama has it and wow - isn't it bad.

I read it in a magazine 6 month ago...

Anybody who buys Primark's clothes or similar shops encourages child labor!
