Critique my Pre-Season - 24 June 2008 09:37
Hi Folks,

Starting to up my training for Pre Season footy, training starts next week and for the last couple of months I have been maintaining my fitness with cycling to work daily (18 miles total) running to and from work occasionally and some tabata work every now and again, and the odd game of 5 a side. I'd say I am reasonably fit at the moment, but want to go into the season the fittest player in my team if not in the league. I've put together this plan and ran through it last week with the exception of the Football training and its going good. Can you critique this and give any suggestions, originally only had 1 rest day but was reccomended to add a second to avoid burnout.

I have accounted for muscle loss which will happen, and I'd say on footballing terms I am a bit too big muscularly and wouldnt mind losing a bit, which is why I am missing out weights sessions for this next two months and concentrating purely on endurance, speed and agility.

Sunday: Afternoon: 3 Mile Run, then Hill Sprints or Tabata Running, 3 Mile Run - Evening: Tabata Rowing.
Monday: Morning: Cycle to Work (9 Miles) - Evening: Cycle Home (9 Miles)
Tuesday: Morning: Cycle to Work (9 Miles) - Evening: Cycle Home (9 Miles), Football Training.
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: Morning: Cycle to Work (9 Miles) - Evening:Cycle Home (9 Miles), Football Training.
Friday: Morning: Rest - Evening: Slow Run Home (9 Miles), Tabata Rowing.
Saturday: Rest

I aim to follow this for the first month or two then eventually swap the cycles to cycling to work, run home, run the next day and cycle home etc. Hoping this plan is going to get me to the level I want to be at in fitness terms. Our Pre-Season is only on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I dont find that does enough for me generally, which is why I am developing my own plan outwith that.

Let me know if you have any suggestions?
