2008 UKSC Wales Strongest Man Info.
-
24 June 2008 14:20
This year`s competition will be held on Sunday 20th July 2008 at Peak Physique Gym, Newport Raod, Cardiff. There will be a total of 6 events, all of which will be announced on the day, taking this competition back to an `old school` style competition for a change to make it more exciting for the spectators. For entry forms, please email Dean Bolt at dean@deanbolt.com and he will send you one ASAP. The closing date for entries is FRIDAY 11th JULY 2008 and no late entries will be accepted. The top 2 will qualify for the UKSC UK's Strongest Man competition. Please don't ask me questions, I am only posting this on behalf of Dean, mail him if you have any concerns etc.

I can imagine who`s retarded idea the surprise events are!! This will deter competitors not knowing what they have to do on the day!

Let me remember my history... err no. I don't recall it being old school to not know what the lifts are or to tell the guys on the day.

I don't understand how this makes it more exciting for the crowd. I have found building up the events with pre publicity attracts more of a crowd. We're looking at a bus push in the team strongman (If space we'll have two buses and let the lads race each other) and will be promoting this event heavily to attract the crowds. In addition Stage coach are looking at putting up a prize just for the winner of this event building it even more as a big feature event.

This dont suprise me in the least-It wouldnt suprise me if certain individuals have known what the events are for a while now giving them a huge advantage-I wouldnt bother to enter a competition rigged so unfairly!!!

Theres not many left that train events in peak now Jamie so it wouldnt make much of a diffrence! I think they have gone for this option as when they told everybody the events at the welsh BSM qualifier the weights deterd some people but by doing this its just making the situation worse as beginers in the sport dont like to step into the unknown!! I could probably be close to competative at this point for this show but not knowing the events I wouldnt even risk ****ing up my leg again!

It doesn't sound very popular then If you have any concerns about it then drop Dean an email (dean@deanbolt.com), he and Dave from Peak Physique are arranging it all and I'm sure they'll listen to everyone's concerns but if nobody bothers then nothing will happen. As Dale said, when they told everyone the events for the BSM qualifier, people were constantly phoning and mailing him, complaining about everything from the weights being used, heights of platforms, distances etc. etc. so this time their thinking was "If they are real strongmen then they'll be able to cope with whatever we give them". If you think about the event equipment they have at Peak - i.e. just basic stuff then I would think that the events are not going to be anything you wouldn't do week in week out in training. I don't think anyone does any real event training at Peak at the moment (the main two who would are out injured as far as I know) so nobody will have an unfair advantage.

I agree with the million questions about events etc. But here's what I've done: Given loads of notice. Told them to train for it. Told them to put on event of their own if they can do better. Finally tell them to stop bitching.

It's the one thing we agree on. I had wanker not even taking part asking about rules ands techniques for events. In the past I even had someone tell me an event I had co-created and for which I set the rules and when I did it I was 'doing it wrong'. WTF??!!
