illness - 24 June 2008 16:32
last week i was admitted to hospital with glandular fever and tonsilitus as well as jus feelin ****e!!
so i have only eaten soup about 3 times in 2 weeks as that is the only thing i could swollow at the time of the swelling, howver the swelling has gone down now and i have still got no appetite.
I weighed 12 st 2 before i was ill and i weighed myself this morning and i am now 11 st 6 3/4!!! this is a massive weight loss for me and i have noticed muscular atrophy.
the doc said ill be ok to go back training in about 2 weeks.
I was wondering if anybody had any ideas of how to stop the decline in weight loss and muscular atrophy until i am fit enough to hit the gym. Also how long will it take to get my strength and size muscular size back to normal??
any help mucho appreciated!!
cheers

What is your appetite like at the moment, how much are you eating a day roughly?

In regards to getting your strength back, it will probably be quite quick with a good diet. I used to train in my early twenties and then quit for a few years. When I returned I regained all my lost strength within a few months. I was adding weight on every exercise in every session. Then once I hit my previous maximums things slowed from one day to the next...

So really I dont think you should worry too much about the lost muscle. For now, just eat as best you can and hold out until you can get back to training.

Since moving in with the missus and having a baby over the last 2 years, I've done my fair share of hitting and missing in the gym, and the diet going to pot. Needless to say, the muscle just disapeared.

But I had 2 big come backs during this time (I'm now consistant again thank god), and I was amazed how quickly the muscle and strength came back. And a lot of that was to do with the fact that I'd found this place and understood much more about my diet. With a proper diet, it should be back in no time.

I'm cutting at the minute I'd losing a bit of muscle, but I don't worry too much as I know it'll come straight back.
