Treamill as Fasted AM Cardio - 24 June 2008 17:10
I've been using an exercise bike for fasted AM cardio, and have found it really useful for shifting a few exra pounds.

However, I've just bought a new treadmill as I want to start including some running into my weekly routine.

I don;t have room for both machines, so have given the bike away.

How does a treadmill fair with regards to fasted AM cardio? Anyone use one?

Probably the same as any other piece of equipment, it is the exercise and intensity that counts the most.

I used to think you had to run like crazy on a treadmill, but now I understand the concept of SSCV and keeping the intensity low, I do a nice steady jog.

Or some people do a fast walk, but I struggle with this as it feels like I'm not doing much.

A treadmill burns more calories per hour at the same given heart rate - fact.

HR is lower when rowing or cycling than when running. This is because the heart has to work harder to pump blood higher up (as you are standing)

but if you're doing the same amount of work, surely that means the opposite is true - running burns less calories for any given heart rate
