Beginner - Forearm pain - No pain no gain?? - 25 June 2008 10:32
A few weeks ago I started upping my weights to a level I feel just about confortable with. Now in my left forearm where the muscle is I'm getting sharp shooting pains which i can work through. I read some posts which said it could possibly be the Tendon (The Pain is worst when i release grip of the bar). My question is, My forearms are obviously not as strong and havent build enough muscle to cope with what Im lifting (Not much!) - Will they get stronger whilst im in this pain or is it just making things worse?

I Can drop down to the level I did the weights at before the pain started - but I won't be adding any muscle will I????

It's funny you mention this Rob, i too am very new to this lifting game and i get exactly the same thing, left forearm is worse then the right and is the worst when letting go of the bar....

Does it hurt now if you push it in the area of the pain? Mine is worse about 5" up from my wrist, just above my watch.

It can be worked through but sometimes when lifting it does feel like your forearm could snap!

Do you find that helps then?

I read somewhere that the pain is normally due to a tight grip on the bar...

If its during bicep curls, try using a EZ bar
My posts are all my opinion and based on current knowledge/understanding.

I've recently started Bill Starr's 5x5.

I've notice in the few weeks I've been doing it that my forearms feel a bit achy, not during a workout so much as all the time. Guess its just a result of hitting the forearms from all the deadlifts.

i would say its fine for your forearms to ache a bit but sharp shooting pains are usually bad news
