HAZEL TAKES HEALTHY ACTION! NEW PIC Pg 5 - 25 June 2008 17:10
Well I have finally got round to starting a journal! As you may or may not know I work as James' assistant and I am involved in both MuscleTalk and the nutrition consultancy, Healthy Action.

I started going to a gym when I was 18, which is 14 years ago now, had to think about that! I mainly went for fitness and then I was introduced to weight training and I was hooked.

I kept up the training and I certainly made progress and at the time my goal was purely overall fitness as I rode horses and was competitng regularly at events.

Then a couple of years later I changed gyms and this is when weight training became more serious as it was a gym aimed at BBers. I enjoyed this immensely and made good progress, strength gains, started going to watch a few shows etc. Fast forward five years, and two children later, the gym was a rare treat if I could get childcare!

When my youngest was about a year old I started to get back to the gym on a more regular basis, and it wasn't too hard to pick up from where I had left off. My aim then was to loose the weight I had gained from the pregnancies. Things were going well and then I was in a car accident which put me out of action for a good while, with permanent injuries to both knees.

January this year I carefully started training again, following a knee op last summer, doing mainly cardio. Now I am ready to train more consistently and I hope to see some progress whilst keeping this journal!! I am fortunate enough to have James on hand for dietary advice and MT member Micky, one of the personal trainers for Healthy Action, to devise training plans for me, basically I have no excuse!

Well youve certainly got good people to help you, will be good to see you progress.

Do your knee issues rule out many exercises?

Good luck!

Right so this is a typical daily meal plan, which I usually manage to stick to.

Wake 80mg caffeine

Water

6.00am 45 min unfuelled cardio

Breakfast 7.30am 2 Weetabix + 175ml skimmed milk + tsp sugar
or porridge: 30g oats + 175ml skimmed + water + tsp sugar 200ml fresh fruit juice

Coffee

Mid-morning Item fruit

Mug tea + skimmed milk

Lunch 12.30pm Sandwich: 2-3 oatcakes or 2 Ryvita 100g chicken / 120g tuna + salad

Mug green tea

3.30pm Item fruit

Drink

Evening Meal 5.00pm Main meal inc meat/poultry + 30g basmati rice + 30g wholewheat pasta + small potato/sweet potato

Late snack Low fat, low sugar probiotic yoghurt

Carrot/celery/cucumber sticks – 7-8

I have to confess I rarely mange the late snack!

Thanks Dale, yes professional reputations at stake if I slip up but also motivational as there is no escape from them either

My knee problems do rule out certain exercises, heavy squats for one, but Micky has gots lots of experience in this area so hopefully things will improve. I have started light leg extentions for the first time in nearly four years and so far it is not making the problem any worse, watch this space!

I will have to make a note of the weights I use and add them in later. This plan is for training three times a week. In addition to this I try to do four early morning unfuelled cardio sessions per week, plus yoga once a week and I usually do some more cardio at the weekend. Yes I am on first name terms with all the gym staff as i seem to be there rather alot

Good to see you've started a journal Hazel

Be great for you to get support from the others here.

I've known Hazel for about 11 years, and I remember her training at that time - she's always trained really hard and sensibly. This will be a great Journal for all to read

HIT with Rightyho

Pity we didn't vid Rack going from pink and healthy with a touch of brown to white, then green then that death grey colour reserved for the severely traumatised.

RE: HAZEL TAKES HEALTHY ACTION! - 26 June 2008 23:17
Only did cardio early this morning,as final weights session of the week is tomorrow. Gives me a day to recover thankfully, as my back was quite sore today after the last session. That maybe because I did hour and half of yoga straight after my weights session.

Have to have a quick rant. I had a hospital appointment today as I have a small lump in my neck which they want to do a needla aspiration on. This is the second time I have been for this and its still not done The first time I had been booked to see the wrong Consultant and this time they needed to do the aspiration whilst it was being scanned, which has to be done at a different hospital!! So having psyched myself up I now will have to wait ages for another appointment. Aaagh!!

Rant over...

On the plus side I will be fine for training tomorrow

Morning Hazel - told you I'd make an appearance! You truly are being brave getting your journal up and running, it's turned out to be a God send me for though in all honesty! Much better than 'going it alone', not that you have a choice about that though eh?

Are you posting any piccies, or is that out of the question (I dont' blame you if it is, I'm only teasing as you wanted to take some pilsbury dough boy leg shots for me last week!! lol).

Hope you're doing well and they get your appointment business sorted out soon too, it's embarassing when you work for the NHS to hear things like that - go get the to get their bums in gear and then at least once it's been done you'll be able to fully recover and hopefully no more set backs!!!

Anyway, I'll no doubt be speaking to you next week and I'll either be totally hyper or looking for a room to let if Bri rumbles me after this weekend!! lol , take care.
