Protein Shakes (Promax).... - 25 June 2008 22:35
Hi Guys, pretty new to all this....

I have recently bought a tub of protein shake (promax).
I'm 6"1 and 17st and want to lose weight and gain muscle...

Would you advise me to take the shakes instead of a meal or take both?

I'm weight traing approx 4 times a week..

Thanks guys

protein shakes do not replace meals. They only supplement your diet. There is no requirement for shakes at all. Post up your diet and training

Protein shakes are not used to replace meals mate, but are useful as snacks and are primarily used to higher your daily intake of protein. I see your using MM promax, i can see how these products are very appealing to the newbie (im just assuming your a newbie) as they are heavily advertised in gyms etc and claim to be no.1, but they are very over-priced and unless you got money to burn i suggest you purchase an alternative product.

I suggest you set up a post in the BB supplements section asking about protein you will get alot of feedback quickly, i could suggest you a few brands of protein that are cheaper than MM and just as effective if not more effective, what do you look for in your shake protein content? taste? etc For taste Garnell is good as is Boditronics and Opitmum Nutrition.

Hope this helps...

Thanks mate, appreciate the advice...and yes, i am a newbie!

The only reason i have the promax is due to MM having a dicount voucher, so i got a 454g tub and shaker for a £1..

Had a look at a few different shakes and some are a hell of alot cheaper!

Ive been training for 4 months now mate, and i aint touched a supplement, nothing!!

eat right foods and train hard, cut the cr4p out of your diet and you will be fine..

4 months of training for me and already i weigh 15 stone, bench press 120kg, peck deck 77kg, leg press 125kg, ab crunch 110kg, dumbell 25 kg's and lowered my body fat (bmi) by about 6%

Id max yourself out naturally mate before you take anything thats what im doing, when you stop feeling the pump, change your routine and introduce something then like creatine / protein shakes or whey!!

good luck mate, oh and i agree promax is so expensive compard to other stuff you see on the market!!

to gain muscle, you dont eat enough. also you should decide to do one or the other first, gain muscle first...or burn fat, if you already have alot of fat then i'd burn the fat of before starting to bulk, if u are every slim then bulk before burning fat. its just easier doing 1 thing at a time then trying to do both.

Theres no way of burning fat or gaining muscle fast, only affective whys of doing them. The most effective ways to burn fat is to add Steady State Cardio sessions to your work out, and a few HIIT sessions, like run 3 times a week for 40+ minutes, with a day of HIIT, thats just an example tho, you can mix and match how much SS cardio and HIIT you want to do.

Post your routine up too mate!

Agree with the others about shakes, only use them to supplement a good diet.

Good example diet here:
