recovery - 26 June 2008 04:53
i've been on the DY nox pump formula a few days.

the undoubted pros- increased strength/stamina/drive while weight training resulting in a far better work out. (plus a nice wee head rush)

the unfortunate cons- i'm bloody knackered and sore from working too hard!

so as you might guess......my next question is..... whats the best stuff for aiding recovery???

i know you need to take in extra protein, thats sorted with the bulk unflavoured whey deal from all-in-1

i've also read that the best stuff for recovery is L-glutamine and BCAA.

but does anyone know of particular products that give best results. preferably including the above aminos!!!

What helped me recover a lot more is taking in more protein, yes.. but taking it in from whole food sources rather than just whey... Immediatley PWO, for me whey is 100% a definate with dex right afterwards. But once I'd switched to more whole food I noticed vast decreases in recovery time..

BCAA - yup, agree with that... L-Glutamine - you will get a lot of different opinions on that, me personally it did nowt, but for some its a must.. pretty much just suck it and see with that so to speak ;)

i know alot of people that supplement with L-Glut for recovery, me however, i dont personally bother buying extra L-Glut as i feel i get enough through good quality whey proteins.

a decent post workout shake will help with recovery yes. I copy the ingredients and ratio's of CNPs Pro-Recover, 2-1 dextrose and whey. Dextrose can be bought at most supermarkets, 500g for £1.10 and unflavoured whey from any bulk supplier. Pro-Recover is £20 and weighs 1.28kg total with just 16 servings, so you can see how much cheaper it is making your own.

supplements are only the tip of the iceberg tho. A good clean diet with plenty of rest is the key to a quick recovery

Yep increased protein, Fast carbs after training, and BCAA's are the way to go the bcaa's i would recomend (3) two or three times per day, i noticed a BIG difference in recovery after a few days on the bcaa's i ran out of them and done an hour thai boxing and woke up at 3am thinking i was going to die Lol, i probably wouldnt train without them now

Glutamine is potentially good - I find it helps when I'm training particularly hard, as it reduces the occasions when I feel run down and...you know that feeling when a cold's coming on? That.

Other than that, ALRI Lean Dreams is good. I've used DY NOX typically later on - e.g. 7pm onwards - and whilst I tend to go to sleep late, I still tend to feel quite awake if I've used both that, and had a very intense work out. Since doing the Lean Dreams however, it properly knocks you out, whilst you wake up fresh as a daisy. Haven't noticed much in the fat loss department from it, but quality and consistancy of sleep wise, it's excellent.

Other than that, ensuring some simple sugars (e.g. dext, pro-recover, or if you prefer natural....adding a banana to your pwo shake) helps recovery, as does (I find) carb fuelling before a workout. Not sure why on carb fuelling, but I feel much fresher the next day if I had a reasonable portion of low-GI carbs pre-workout.

Strange one Glutamine some people swear by it, it done nothing for my recovery even at about 30g per day, the lean dreams knocking you out will be the L-tryptophan the pure stuff sends me snoozing like a kitten

You only feel the effects of glutamine if you are hlaf dying on the floor from your workout. Otherwise you wont notice the difference. But it does work.

yes but its not only l-trytophan thats the active in lean dreams.

You can make your own stack

tyrosine (1g)
Glutamine (5g)
5HTP (1200mg)
GABA (1000mg)
Melatonin (30-50mg)
L-dopa (600mg)

This will knock you out cold.

When I've just been maintaining, it's done nowt, but now that I'm doing mostly HIIT style conditioning....it's very helpful. I tend to only supplement with it after my killer workouts.

I rate L-Glutamine, mainly for recovery but iv also noticed since adding it again, 25grms ed, my Strech marks seem to be clearing up. Not sure if this is down to the Glutamine or not tho

30-50mg of Melatonin would probably mean you would not wake up! Thats a massive dose.

I use Myprotein glutamine mixed in with my impact whey also by Myprotein http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-powders/amino-acids/l-glutamine/

I find it does help in recovery when muscles go achy or like brused. It works well if used right.
myprotein unflavoured whey 4.54kg
myprotein Glutamine 100% 1kg
I use milkshake powder nesquik for flavouring supplements
tesco multi vitamins and minerals a to z
holland&barret glucosamine sulphate
tesco omega 3
