How important is it? Obviously as long as you have adequate carbs before you train surely this the only thing you need? On that principle. My mate who goes to the gym at 6 in the morning said that he goes so early so the whole days nutrition is dedicated to recover/growth. Sounds like it would make sense, it would encourage you to get your diet spot on for the rest of the day knowing that you trained first thing. What do you think?

Training first thing is fine. As is training at lunch, or training in the evening.

Fueling exercise is important to make the most of it, a lot will depend on the type of training undertaken (strength training isn't as reliant on glycogen as standard BB training).
