You know the diamond shaped bar you can step into.... Whats the difference between these and normal DLs with an oly bar? Cheers guys.

Ive heard that these work your hamstrings more than your back. You can see why if you think about the movement you are doing using the different types of bars.

I can definately feel it heavy on my quads but i feel them all the time from my mma training lol the reason i ask it, i injured myself years ago doing conventional DL's but for some reason the trap bar doesnt give me any pain.

ORIGINAL: powerhouse_ad Ive heard that these work your hamstrings more than your back. Not at all they work the quads much more than a regular straight bar deadlift,as MonkFinger said its more of a combined leg back movement. Al gerald the guy who developed the origional trapbar designed it as a way of working around a lower back injury he had. It puts you in a natural body position to pull with compared to a straight bar.

I used to have a trapbar....absolutely loved it. Shame the gym I'm at now doesn't have one. I wouldn't use it as a subsitute for any exercise though, but more for variety. So I think it's pointless to say trapbar deadlifts/rows/shrugs..etc are any worse or better than the conventional exercises using a straight bar....they are just different IMO. Definately a useful tool though.
