Sore legs - 04 July 2008 12:48
Hi

I have been reading the cardio and fitness pages and now and it has encouraged me to start doing HIIT on the treadmill and increase my SSCV sessions to 40 minutes a time, but my legs feel contantly tired an sore and makes me not want to run the following day.

At the moment i train 5 days a week (Mon - Fri) and my weight training is going good even though i am on a cut. I do cardio after each session as i can't consistently get up in the mornings to do it then. Ideally i would like to fell fresh enough be able to run on any day i feel like it as i do swimming and cycling as well to mix it up, but sometimes if i have had a run the day before i am forced to swim/cycle because i my legs feel so tired from the day before.

I realised i wasn't stretching much before but even though i am doing it everyday now it hasn't helped as much as i would like. Any suggestions to what it might be and what i can do to fix it?

I am 25yrs old, 13.5 stone and consider myself to be quite fit. Diet is good, mainly oats, whey, lean meat, fish lots of fruit and veg with little to no crap. Is there anything else you need to know?

I'm the same mate.

I do SSCV in the morning 5 days a week. I've just walked up the stairs at work and nearly fallen over! I think it just takes it out of you.

Plus you've then got to fit a legs session in somewhere!! I do my legs on Friday so it doesn't affect my cardio performance. I'm sure it makes my leg session less productive, but I more interested in fat loss at the minute.

I do the same, legs on a Friday to make the week easier.

What do you do to help it? I might start stretching before bed or in the mornings?

Does anyone know how much good this will do?

Take a day off mid-week and do it on Sunday instead. I train 5 days a week and have Wednesday and Sunday off for recovery, I find swimming does also help. I weigh 240 pounds and cover around 30 miles a week running and around 6 swimming, I guess you just have to ask yourself how badly do you want it? It's only soreness after all, not a debilitating injury, especially as you're doing it on a treadmill. I have yet to suffer an injury from pushing myself through "soreness"

My advice would be to check your running trainers to make sure they're up to scratch, seperate the days out like I just described or something similar, eat well, rest well and just crack on.

Failing that ask Integra, he seems to be the most knowledgable person cardio-wise on the board. Good luck!

Thanks for your advise guys, i might just try pushing through it for a week and failing that take a break mid week.
