Belts- leather or neoprene? - 04 July 2008 19:37
i've been weight training for 4 years and have alays stayed away from using a belt for my squats and deadlifts to keep the emphisis on good technique. now i'm lifting heavier than ever before and i think its time to invest in a belt. which type is better? leather or neoprene? any advice?

I use a leather belt and it keeps my back straight and tight, it was well worth the investment for a tenner and imo it will last you a lot longer than a neoprene belt. A leather belt is also better for extreme weights than a neoprene belt due to neoprene having to much flex.

I would say leather as well. Have used both and leather gives more support.

So thats leather 2
Neoprene 0

I use a york belt, and it does the job its supposed. Its strong as hell and hasnt let me down yet. Aim for about 10-20 quid and you cant go wrong.

A big thick leather powerlifting belt is the way to go IMO.

My first one was only a tenner, 50% off from Workout World!

The one I use now was free from my sponsor [worth $50]], but going to buy an Inzer Lever Belt over summer for squatting as my belt slipped at Scotlands Strongest Man and ruined the squat for me.

neoprene belts and sleeves are really only designed to keep areas warm and avoid cramps and whatnot.
