To all metal fans, who's the best?

Ive admired these guys for there skills for a long time, settle an argument, whos the best guitar player? Kirk Hammett (Metallica) - click me Slash (Guns N Roses) - click me Im really torn between the two.

Kirk Hammett by a mile, he's both technically superior to Slash and his music is better, in my opinion of course.

I am as big a fan of both bands , but IMO Slash is substantially better the Kirk Hammet
(not that I am knowledgeable about guitar playing at all , Hammett may well be better technically , I don't know - I am simply going by ear !)

Yeah wouldnt class it as Metal either but as you say mate Vai is a god on the guitar, an absolute perfectionist. For the Love of God is my fav from him.
In answer to the first question its hard to say whos better as theyr both awesome but i kinda like Slash better, just my opinion though.

A really good guitarist you should check out is Synyster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold, he can do some crazy on a guitar, the man is simply awesome.

All I'll say is that as a guitarist myself, I find that playing Slash's stuff to be a doddle.Whereas trying to play a lot of Kirk Hammett's stuff is far more challenging. Technically it's like comparing Michael Schumacher to Jensen Button. Obviously music is far more subjective that F1, but it's the best analogy I could come up with at this time.
Slash has a great style, and I love Gn'R, but Hammett is a different class altogether in my opinion.

I kinda agree with that, i can play some or GNR's stuff but metallica's is a different ball game, apart from nothing else matters lol

Out of the two,i prefer Slash's solo's.Not sure if that makes him a better player though. Check out Doug Aldrich's playing on Whitesnake's 'Live In The Still Of The Night' DVD.Awesome.

Kirk Hammett is a very limited player. I far prefer Metallica to G'n'R but I would have to go for Slash. Although Marty Friedman (ex-Megadeth) p***es on them both.

If were to say one lot of guitarists i would rank up there for shear WTF type guitar work it would be Children of Bodom. Im not a great fan or anything but some of the stuff they play is rather unbelievable.

What about good old Dave Mustaine? Kirk's style does suit Metallica better, but Kirk aint better than Dave. Just different.
There's more metallic in Kirk.. there's more blues in Dave.

I know, of the two I'd say Slash is the more limited by far, technically speaking at least.
In fact it's long been said that the real musical driving force behind G'n R was their little known rythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin. Most of their great guitar riffs are said to have been his. Slash just looked the part so he was put on lead guitar.
