Virus - 06 July 2008 12:14
My computer has developed a virus when I tried to download a video. Bottom right on the task bar I have a VIRUS ALERT message and it appears to be a sort of AntiVirus software in itself asking me to download other stuff. Desktop back is now red and my start up menu is different. Are there any Anti Virus programmes online I can buy which will sort this mess out?

Haven't a clue what to do. Can I buy anything online to sort it? I can't even access the C drive of my computer and CTRL ALT DEL no longer works; virus appears to have disabled them.. Anybody able to help?

Yes.

You can try the online scanners at

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

All free - might not sort it out but should be able to let you know the nature of the problem, at least.

I had something similar long ago. The virus file was buried within the invisible files.

I used a program which found it(but couldn'ty delete it). I then changed the preferences so I could see invisible folders and files, and huzzah, deleted the bugger.

Yes, there's some right chancers out there. Surprisingly enough, the people who put it there are the same ones who can sell you the software to delete it. Funny that.

I got this a while back. I have to admit that I was watching a few naughty movies at the time and clicking on one caused this file to load onto my PC. These people know your going to be a bit reluctant to take it to a computer expert who'll know straight away that you were on some site that had a name like www.giveittomebigboy.com or some other site like that. But, because there are plenty of people who got caught with this nuicence, there are plenty of people who put the solution up on the internet. I had to put mine into safe mode, but I followed the instructions and it got rid of it. If it blocks you from downloading the necessary software to get rid of it, simply take a memory stick to a friends PC so you can download the file and then import it onto yours.

Just to let you know windows defender is not an antivirus program, it is a spyware program, it won't stop virus's.
you need to install an antivirus program aswell as using windows defender

I was out running yesterday and got abuse off some 12 year old girls, so I stopped and offered them out.
