Wrist injuries, i cant progress
-
07 July 2008 17:44
Guys, How is everyone, hopefully getting bigger?! I started training about 6 months ago now or maybe longer but just under a year. I was trainging with good form during the first 3-5 months of training with no injuries whatsover. All of a sudden i experienced my first injury on my left wrist, which was just like an ache and was painful when lifting any sort of dunbell. I rested and stopped going training for about 2 to 3 weeks and didnt touch a weight, this worked and the injury went away. I got back into training but i trained with lighter weight because i didnt want this pain to come back and it didnt, but now all of a sudden i managed to pull my Right wrist now. I have stopped training again its my first week off and the pain is easing away. But i dont know what i am doing wrong. I seem to get the injuries on my wrist only on shoulder days. My left hand injury came when doing front raises and my present injury on my right hand came doing shrugs on a barbell from behind. I am getting really frustrated because i am dropping the weight on alot of exercises because i dont want these injuries to come back but i am managing to push out 3 - 4 sets on lighter weights. And i am worried if i up the weight i will get injured again. Can anyone advise me on what i can do, i have bought gloves with wrist support and dropped the weight to stop this from happening again but i am getting the thought in my head that i cant grow because of these set backs and light weights.

i feel for you as i have an injury to me left wrist as well, have been out of the gym 3-4 weeks and it is driving me nuts. am on anti inflamitary tabs from the doc and that is helping, so go and speak to your doc in the first instance. i will be going back in about a week if it isnt better to ask what is the next thing to try.

I have weak wrists, which is a problem when i lift big weights but my advice would be to stay away from heavy barbell curls or barbell curls at all if you can handle it. its the only exercise that feels like its wrenching my wrists out of their sockets. try and do forearm flexopr exercises, this has helped strengthenmy wrists gradually to this day.

Obviously it's masking a problem rather than fixing it, but you could try some proper wrist wraps while you rehab your difficulties.

ive been out for a week already and the pain seems to be easing, i will take another week and see where i am at after that before i get back into it. i wear the my protein gloves with the wrist straps and they seem to be good, the thing is the pain always seems to come later on after the training session, like in the evenings after training.
