Few squat questions - 07 July 2008 21:09
Just a couple of questions..

1. What are the pros/cons of squatting low ie beyond parallel.

2. What rep ranges are most suitable for building muscle as i have seen posts discussing low and some high, up to 20 reps etc.

Thanks

Pro's - More hamstring/glute activation.

Cons - May reduce quad activation with increasing depth, may put undue stress on knee joint.

Any rep range can be used in fairness. Some prefer 5's, some 8-12, some 12-15, some 20

they would involve the hip flexors more, building a more powerful squat out of the hole

to hit the quads harder (as opposed to glutes, hams, hips), take a more narrow stance and place the bar high on the traps. The angle at the hips will reduce and much more of the weight will get placed on the quads.
