Men Are More Likely To Commit Suicide ?
-
08 July 2008 20:39
Am I right in saying that men are more likely to commit suicide than women ? I think I am and living with the same woman for 13 yrs I can think of lots of good reasons but does anyone have any scientific reasons for this ? drab , I cant help thinking this is right up your street and I'd love your input

i think there is a few differences. statistically i seem to remember women are more likely to attempt it, men are more likely to suceed. men usually choose methods that are more likely to work, a greater number of women do it as a cry for help where as men are more likley to actually want to die from it. if that makes sense.

Depression in males is rife, it is however not the 'manly' thing to discuss this or deal with as you're percieved as weak This obviously leads to the grand finale of lack of a coping structure and suicide Women (generally) have a much better support system You'd be surprised at the amount of times a bloke genuinely needs a chat and the lads will brush it off with a 'chin up, mate' or 'stop being a puff' comment Oly time I've seen real support bloke to bloke is in the forces as although there is a lot of piss taking everyone is there for one another. Look out for your mates, you might start noticing things

Its the old stiff upper lip syndrome keeping it to ourselves while you cant stop the fairer sex rattling on about such tragedies as Corrie being shown late because the Champions League Finals on.

Must be official figures somewhere on the internet. Men seem to hold higher positions within companies and with that comes extra stress, stock market, top banking jobs etc... im not saying women cant do the job!!!! im just saying its mainly men that do them. where as women suffer depression more after child birth etc... lots of other reasons for both sides to want to commit suicide. my ex tried to kill herself by taking loads of pills at my house, she admitted this was a cry for help... where as my mate at college killed himself. If he was doing a cry for help he made it very hard for them to get any message and save him etc, he just did it.

I suspect that the income of suicide victims is largely irrelevant. Iirc young males are the most likely to commit suicide , long before they get stressful jobs.

Look at it this way: If you had a vagina, would you ever consider putting an end to it all? Women have so much to live for!

but then how can anyone know? how can anyone know who is thinking about committing suicide? unless they actually do it... take bridgend... fraky place where they are all hanging themselves, been all sorts, young girls, young boys, etc then you have people in my area that keep jumping off farringdon and plaza car park into the road... all adults. I'd also be interested in knowing how many of the suicides are classed as being suspicious... we had 2 girls killed here a while back, blatent cover up as to what really went on, they said suicide but it was so dodgy, yet case was closed without anyone looking into it. makes me wonder how many happen... also that fella that was part of the wmd iraq thing with the gov as well that supossedly killed himself.
