What would you think?
-
09 July 2008 09:08
My daughetr is 4. She has a dancing dispplay coming up. Who ever takes her to the dress reheasal has to be backstage the night of the concert to help the kids get changed into their clothes and different outfits. I take her to the dancing every wek, and all practice as my ex missus doesnt drive. She says she is not changing her backstage as her sister has a ticket for the display and doesnt want her to be sitting on her own, she also says she wants to see my daughter dancing. My mum cant get to the dress rehearsal either. It looks as if I am going to have to go and be in a room full of 4 year old girl getting changed into different outfits by their mums. Surely people are going to be uncomfortable with this? I feel like a nonce.

Have to agree, that certainly does appear to be putting you in an uncomfortable position. Sounds a bit naieve of your ex.

Without meaning to be rude that's an absolute ridiculous belief. For the record I've been in this situation many times - I've taken other young girls swimming along with my daughter and all sorts.

People might get the wrong idea. Personally I would stay away. I know its ridiculous but we live in the Daily Mail generation.

I strongly disagree with that - very few people will get the wrong idea, and I see no reason why anyone should allow the idiots that do to interfere with a normal relationship with one's child. Furthermore we'll only live in the 'Daily Mail Generation' if people give in to this stupidity and allow it to happen. Despite what certain rags may tell us there is nothing, and there never will be, anything wrong with a father undressing his child.

You are the reason we live in the "daily mail" generation if you buy into it If the scenario was that he was a single parent (mother of the child passed away) and he had no sisters etc what is he supposed to do? she cant go swimming so or any sort of activity like that incase "People might get the wrong idea" If the girls were 10+ then it would be inappropriate

I understand if you are uncomfortable though. Its a sad state of affairs. I was in India for a few months working in bangalore for an IT project. My boss was with his wife and baby. In the hotel people would see the little boy, go awww and pick him up and give him a cuddle and comment on how sweet he was. This wouldn't happen in the UK now, as the person would be seen as a paedo/nonce type fella. Its a shame how the culture is now.
