Elliptical trainer or Treadmill or Rower or Bike? - 09 July 2008 13:36
Just like the title says --> Which one of these machines should I get for my home gym. I was thinking treadmill but I am not an amazing runner and I worry about impact injuries (was prone to them in the military) and how sore knees would ruin deadlifts and squat etc.
I will be doing my cardio first thing in the morning's (6:00am for 45 mins). Fasted cardio and occassionally HIIT just to shift stubborn fat.
Any thoughts?

Cheers paddym99,

I didn't expect that answer. In your opinion what are the major benefits with the rower over the others then, why would you choose it compared to the others?

My choice would be a bike, i just find them more suitable to me and good value for money.

Whatever you choose i would advise trying to get an ex-commercial one. From my own experience the general 'home gym' ones that are readily available are not up to much when it comes to long term regular use.

A bike or a rower.

Treadmills and crosstrainers have more moving parts, and as a result they will breakdown much more often than a bike or a rower.

Yeah I went for the rower purely because of it's versatility and the fact that they never break down. A bike would be my second choice, treadmills and x-trainers are more likely to break down imo.

I believe that Concept 2 rowers are a top choice for many.

Yep the concept's the only one worth getting really. Yous hould be able to pick a good 2nd hand one up for around £700. Also look at http://www.concept2.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=7&sid=5fc198a0296fd13afdeb191accb54d5a for some good deals.
