Big lats? Have trouble hitting tris? - 09 July 2008 14:41

One thing about hitting tris is keeping your elbows in, - but with big lats do you find this more difficult? When you're about to perform a rep your lats natural tense up, which makes them stick out and push your elbows out. Any of you people think this hinders progress?? Or am I talking out my backside?

I thought this may have been a problem too.

Try arching your back slightly and pushing your shoulder blades in together.
Age - 18

Bench - 95kg (at 62kg)
Deadlift - 120kg (at 62kg)
Squat - 100kgx5 (at 62kg)
Front Squat - 92.5kg (at 62kg)

Hmmmm - so basically placing your elbows more in front of your lats, as opposed to next to them

No, I don't think the size of your lats should effect this at all TBH.

It's all down to technique.

I've seen plenty of pro BB's with huge lat development who don't seem to have any problem with this. You've just got to try and concentrate on keeping the tention on the tricep...mind muscle connection..etc.

Sounds like you're form/technique might be a little off...I don't know. What tricep exercise in particular were you refering to anyway? There are quite a few.

Do some over-head tricep exercises such as skullcrushers - then you dont have to worry about keeping your elbows anywhere near your lats.

You can still CGBP, just keep your form perfect and the reps slow-ish. Mind muscle connection is what it's all about.
Nothing contributes so much to tranquilizing the mind as a steady purpose - a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye.
