what sort of time scale? - 09 July 2008 19:44
ok, im on a cut and seem to be dropping ok. have come down from 17st 6 to 16st 5 in about 3-4 weeks, 24%bf to 20%.

what sort of time scale is a decent cut? im aiming for sub 10% bf.

im taking in about 2000-2500 calories a day as per James' cutting diet. alternating my cardio from unfuelled swimminig 40mins to interval training.

also, would a greater calorie deficit lead to quicker fat loss? there are a few things i could go without but would rather not. i cut oatcakes out of the diet and dont notice it. i have natural yogurt with fruit with my main meal (chicken and mixed veg) but could cut out the yoghurt and just have the fruit

Well you've lost nearly a stone in 4 weeks, some of that is likely to be water. You should be aiming for around 1-2lbs of fat loss a week so I would continue as you are, until things start to slow down.

With regards to cutting cals further to increase fat loss, that is not needed at this stage. Anymore than 2lbs a week is not going to be fat loss, more likely to be water loss and also you don't want to be cutting into lean tissue.

ok thanks redhotf

il leave my diet as it is then and maybe include the oatcakes a bit more. as you said i think the sudden loss is more water as the loss is starting to staedy out a bit now

Save the cutting down on the calories further till the final furlong, that's your trump card.

I know we all want to lose fat as quickly as possible, if only we could snap our fingers and lose 2st in a week - but you know that's not how it works! It takes time to put fat on and unfortunately it takes time to lose it.

Persistence and consistency is the key
