Cooking Bacon
-
12 July 2008 13:28
Hi guys, I usually have bacon every morning since starting this atkins diet and use extra virgin olive oil to cook it in. I have just read that the oil turns into a trans fat at high temp (I believe) so would it be best to maybe microwave the bacon? I have tried microwaving it before and seems to taste ok and less dishes, but is there any issues with microwaving the bacon does anyone know?

You don't need to add oil to cook it: bacon contains enough to not stick in the pan...

Where did you read that, 'cos it's not correct. See http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/fb.asp?m=2860789 Olive oil is less likely to form trans fats than corn, sunflower & rapeseed oils when heated above 100C. Anyway, why are you on the Atkins Diet? I thought I had explained in another post that the Atkins Diet is a Standard Ketogenic Diet intended for sedentary people and the Induction Phase (~20g of net carbs/day for 2 weeks) doesn't provide enough carbs to fuel workouts.

Nice one mate actually heard it on here about the olive oil Well, I have been reading the atkins book and he states in there that it can run alongside a exercise regime, so thought I would give it a try. It is my third day on this diet now and did feel a bit tired but feeling ok now
