Would this be overtraining? - 13 July 2008 00:00
I currently do a pretty standard full body routine 3 times a week..

Deadlifts
Squats
Bench Press
Pull Ups
Shoulder or Military Press
Bent Over Row
(then I rotate a few exercises at the end)

I'm wondering, as I'm on a bulk and looking to bulk up, would it do more harm than good if I did cardio for 2 days a week aswell? I feel a bit of a fat bastard scoffing food 4 days a week without doing any exercise, I'm ectomorph and weight is hard to gain, and I am eating 4000cals and I do have about 10-12%bf. So basically, if I do 2 days of HIIT in between 3 days of FB, would I shed bodyfat and still gain muscle or will I just hinder my muscle growth and fail horribly?

You have the basis for a 3 day split there. Good selection of exercises, but not on the same day.

Look into 'Push Pull Legs'. There's a routine thread by a chap called Frankie which goes into considerable depth. http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/m_8817/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#8817

Your lack of weight gain is probably due to your training and possibly your diet, though it' difficult to comment on that without seeing it.

Actually I've added quite a bit of weight to my DL since starting this, I had really bad DOMS and got splitting headaches for a few weeks while my body was adapting, but now I recover fine in 48 hours. The idea of this is to work all my major muscles 3x a week, not to kill every muscle and hit it from every possible angle with a 'more is better' mentality, but to work it.

Aye i strongly recommend u give up lifting altogether, before u end up droppin a barbell on yer heeed!

Constructive, first post and you're already a troll, why don't you just leave this forum, it's a great resource without people like you.

Thanks to all the others, I've gained quite nicely since I started this and my lifts are increasingly nicely too, so I'm going to keep doing this for another month or two as it's working, then switch it up a little. The real question was if I should do cardio on days in between, if I was doing the push/pull routine 3 days/week as suggested above, do you feel cardio 2 days in between would be too much?
