Drugs for MMA - 13 July 2008 18:41
Would Designer Steriods be a common drug in MMA? Or would they be a bad choice? I have heard they can give bad muscle cramps?

I know a lot of MMA guys. Most are actually clean believe it or not.
Those that aren't tend to use standard fast-acting compounds - nothing designer or flashy.

Just find it supprising, thort they would be used as alot of people wouldnt want to go the whole hog and inject.

Went to Cage Warriors last night and saw alot of guys that looked 'un-natural'. Some was strange, I saw 2 guys that I had seen loose 2 months ago, they didnt look in great shape two months ago and last night they looked like totaly differant. Maybe the loss spured them to juice?

drug use is fairly rife esp with the bigger guys. they have to be more carefull now though as untill recently you could take steroids and compete in the UK without any problems.

as said before you dont want anything that will cause you to hold water or infringe on cardio, and what you use also depends on weight class.

unfortunately since thyere is supposed testing some of the established guys have begun telling porkies about how they have never used and dont like drugs in the sport, similar bollox to what is hgappeneing with dwain chambers now ie lots of people that have used pretending they havnt.

just to add in support of what righty said i dont think use is common at club level and you ceratinly dont 'need' drugs at that level. MMA is hugely about skill, heart and cardio, strength is down the list. last time i trained with some decent level mma guys and it got to fairly full on grappling/ground work i was fine for about 2 minutes and then was absolutely destryod from a cardio point of view and hence my lager size, steroid use and greater strength was useless to me.

Yep I would agreed hugely there! Strength isnt everything. Just something I have been curious about as it is a new sport to me. Not something I am considering myself either.

From the guys I have seen at 'Club Level' I think it is used more than you think it is.

You have to bear in mind that in the UK the MMA scene is very close nit and what you class as 'Club Level' can be quite a high level. For instanance take a look at Rough House in Nottingham, it only a club but you have some class fighters there, 1 has just been signed by the UFC and one will be signed within the next 12 months.
