Overtraining? Help!
-
14 July 2008 00:10
Been reading a lot of posts about doing a 3 day routine and wondered whether it would be more benficial to me. Think i might be overtraining at the mo as doing 6 days a week with a different muscle each day. At the mo i'm doing: Mon- Shoulders Tues- Biceps Weds- Chest Thurs- Back Fri- Triceps Sat- Legs I haven't listed abs because i'm getting good results with what i do for them so dont think i need to change it. Do ppl think i'd be better off cutting training down to 3 times a week? Was doing that at uni and got some good results, but now i'm home for the summer and haven't got a job so just going to the gym most days! Please let me know what'd be best, kinda feel like not getting much results by going this much! Cheers in advance

Depends on you really - If your getting gains doing what your doing then stick with it. Personally 6 days is alot to stay comitted to. How much you doing on Bi's and Tri's days? Personally I find that less is more, ie small amound of sets but real heavy weights.

Think i was getting better gains doing the 3 day routine with more rest. That was another thing i was worried about, my bi's routine is pretty bad, way too many exercises! Got somethin like ez bar curls, standing alternate curls, hammer curls, incline curls......basically too many curls. was doing 3 sets of 6 each exercise. What would you recommend for bi's? At the mo, for tri's im doing cg bench, jaw breakers, french press and standing extensions. is this any good? And is it better to work the tri's harder since they are a bigger muscle than bi's??

How about doing combining your Bi's and Tri's and just doing an 'Arm Day'. That'll save you 1 day for a rest day? I tend to do a big heavy move on each muscle for the first set of each muscle, i.e, for Bi's I do olympic long bar curls and Tri's i do weighted dips. I like to go as heavy as possible (even cheat a little if you have to) for the first set doing only 8 reps. Then do 2 more sets of lighter more targeted stuff (but higher reps 10-12) -Ape/hammer/standing or incline curls for bi's and cable work for tri's, but keeping religious form on the last 2 sets - no cheating allowed! I've had alot of development with this over the last 2 years, 3inches in 2 years, starting to go abit stale now tho, might have to change it up...
