Creatine or not? - 14 July 2008 16:45
Alrite,
I've just started training again recently and have got a 3 day free weights routine sorted out with some (not too intense) cardio thrown in on my off days. As my aim is to reduce excess (gut) fat and tone up a bit before I think about bulking up I have started a high protein, low carb diet.
Have some MP Impact whey and was about to order some micronized creatine to start as well but an experienced body builder in work told me not too bother with it the now and concentrate on the weights/diet for the time being until I shed some of the extra beef!

Anybody else started out the same as me (with my goals) and used creatine?
I wouldn't have thought it could do any harm and can only benefit my training? At the same time I don't want to just pish money down a drain for the sake of it.

Any thoughts?
Cheers!

Good advice. It's not about the money or possible benefit, supplement are a distraction and it's more important to get weights and diet in place. Think about them in 6-12 months.

I would agree 100% with what your work friend said.

Most supplements will do little or nothing like what people expect them to. Creatine is tried and tested, but does'nt give noticeable benefit to everyone that uses it.

Get settled into a solid routine with a suitable diet, and then in time as your progress slows you could look at giving creatine a try to see if it does anything for you.

Squat - 135kg
Bench - 125kg x 2
Deadlift - 230kg

I was in the same place as you five months ago. While I did want to use creatine, I decided not to use it right away. Instead I told myself that if I cleaned up my diet and got my 3 day split in every week for 5 months I would buy myself some creatine. It worked as an additional motivator.

creatine is best added when you can be sure you are noticing its benefits...
if your starting out then your workouts for the next few months will be all over the place with noobie gains raising the weights each week.

have a look at creatine in 6 months time and invest in a good quality brand, not holland and barret!
