Not your typical diet question... - 14 July 2008 16:58
I've not posted in a while and I'm actually asking this on behalf of my stepdad.

He's got himself pretty massive for his height weighing 14 stone 7 and being 5'9" lean all over, abs highly visible etc.

He was training the other day and doing an exercise where u lift the bar off of the floor and bring it up then go down but wihtout allowing it to touch the floor then up...not sure of it's name.

He did 180kg's with ease so decided to move upto 200kg and snap...

He has snapped the tendon in his bicep and needs an op to fix it. He's clearly going to be out for sometime and is pretty gutted because he is the biggest and strongest he has ever been and now he is going to lose it all...

I am wondering what a good diet would be to minimise the muscle loss and not put on loads of fat. He's hoping he'll be able to work his legs etc. still but we'll see.

I want to try and sort him out a diet just to lift his spirits a bit as he is pretty gutted.

I'm not asking you guys to do all the work but I have a very limited knowledge of nutrition and don't have long to sort this for him.

Any fo you suffered a major injury set back and had to take similar action?

Help much appreciated!

I can post a pic up of his size although I'm not sure on measurements but like I say he's 5'9" maybe 5'8" and 14 and a half stone lean.

Thanks, Ryan.

Why do you think he is going to loose all hist muscles? How long is he expecting not to be training?

Im guessing if he is in training and quite good shape his diet is already quite sound, myproblem in the past has been when injured I tend to feel down and eat loads of junk, he needs to avoid his and just carry on eating clean, any ideas what his current diet is like ??

I'm not sure what his present diet is precisely but there isn't much junk if any at all. I know he eats a lot of fish and rice and that kind of thing!

I would have thought snapping a tendon means at least 3 months out but I don't know exactly!

SO the best advice is keep eating clean as he always does?

Thanks guys,

Ryan.

yeah keep eating as he always does. He will put on a little fat without training but this isn't really a problem.

Does he use gear? Sounds as though it's a possiblity by his size?

If you have a pic that would be cool also! :)

He definitely doesn't use steroids or anything I'm not even sure he uses supplements, I know he used to use creatine but stopped about a year ago when he decided it can't be good for you!

He's just a bit of a health freak, always nagging others to look after their bodies etc.

I'll get a pic up soon, I need to scan it in.

Thanks, Ryan.
