Chest pain
-
16 July 2008 11:53
Hi everyone, I've been forced to give up cycling for a few months so have recently started running to stay in shape. I consider myself in decent shape and was doing about 150miles on the bike every week. I'm running about 6 miles off road, but am finding that during the first half of the run, I get a pain around my ribs, on the right hand side, just below the pec. When I stop running the pain goes, but will start again within a minute or so of running again. The pain seems to come even when I'm not pushing it - last night it started up and I stopped and timed my HR at 96 p/m. Strangely this doesn't seem to affect the second half of my run. I've never had such pain on the bike, even when I'm really going for it (my HR can get to 225 p/m when sprinting on the trainer). It's really frustrating because it stops me getting into a rhythm. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It sounds like it's probably muscular, I get something similar and keep it at bay with a sports massage or a hot stone massage every few weeks
