Chest never feels worked out
-
17 July 2008 02:35
I never feel anything on my chest at all after Ive worked out my chest should it really be burning after a workout? I workout untill technical failure usually as I have no spotter otherwise I would work to complete failure. On Wednesdays the chest excercises I do are Incline barbell bench press Flat dumbell bench press Dips (They always seem to tire my triceps but dont feel anything at all on chest, I work these to complete failure)

Don't want to sound rude mate, but sounds as though you havent hit the correct form.............. You say you go failure............if thats the case, then you should be feeling something in your muscles.Try going lighter in the weights and getting full stretch in your movements,There are some good sites on the webby to get an idea Get some db flyes into your routine too.............

Yeah mate maybe you should ask someone to evaluate your technique and defo try lowering your weight to improve your form, I have been trying dumbbell presses in all ranges incline/flat/decline and starting holding the dumbbells chest level palms facing towards my feet pressing the weight up and twisting the arms so palms face together at the top of the movement, really get a good squeeze then and feel it afterwards for days. Maybe you could try flyes until you can hardly do anymore and then move to presses for as many reps as you can at the end without rest to finish them off
Commit to the lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. - proverbs 16:3

I agree work on your form you need to train heavy but not to heavy so that your form is usless. Make sure you pump out those reps quick DONT lock out at the top of the rep that just takes all the strain off the muscles and puts it on your joints. Just stop before lockout so that you have continues tension on your chest. You must train to complete muscular failure on at least one set better on two. If you havent a spotter then use dumbells so that you can just drop them if you get stuck. You could also pre exhaust your chest by doing 4 sets of DB flyes first then do your Bench Press

One quick trick to know what your hitting.... Put no weight on the bar, or a very light weight like 30kgs, then bust out a lot of reps.... Do it faster than you normally would and youll feel the muscles being worked getting a bit sore. Just because your not getting DOMS doesnt mean its not being worked. Maybe youve been doing those exercises long enough your body has adapted. Or that your nutrition is good enough to stop you getting DOMS.
