Start gently. Lift what you are comfortable with and eat plenty of everything but avoid fried food. Do that for six months and ask again

If you've only just started I'd simply get used to training 3 times a week using a basic routine as mentioned in the articles that Beefycol posted up.
If you find you get on with weight training and want to take it a little more seriously then dietary advice can be provided in the Diet & Nutrition section of the forum, more specific training advice can be found in the Training forums and you might want to consider keeping a journal of your progress to monitor how you're progressing and hopefully get some additional advice from the other members on the forum.

Training should fundamentally be fun and enjoyable. If you're just beginning you won't need to overcomplicate things with a specific diet or super strict training routine. It's more important to just start lifting weights, albeit doing effective exercises in an effective manner, and then once you get used to the routine of training a few times each week the fun will really begin!!!
